Biography
What has non-stop anime daydreams, an ear for musical momentum, a penchant for girl-bossing, and also maybe two(2) thumbs? It’s Julienne K. Tsang!
Self-acclaimed “Creator of Stuff”, Julienne simply cannot choose a single artistic discipline to dive into. From their arsenal of musical motifs to their shonen-action fight sequences, Tsang weaves never ending narratives into the ever changing mediums they choose. Musically, their style is described as “chameleon-like”. The breadth of their style ranges from cute singer-songwriter tunes to lush neo-classical pieces to ear ringing EDM. Though they often collaborate with filmmakers and animators, Tsang has also written music for established ensembles such as Sputter Box, Hypotenuse Trio, Ensemble Decipher, and Coda Brass. Delving deeper into the depths of theater, Tsang has has spent the past few years writing a full length musical and an operetta. Artistically, they are heavily inspired by anime that got them through adolescence. With their self-taught skills, Tsang utilizes their spare time to produce their webcomic Seven Stars Silver Clouds, which is best described as The Office but If Everyone Had a Cool Weapon and The Apocalypse Was On Its Way. Girl-bossing(as a verb, not the gender) their way through the industry, Tsang is also an arts administrator. With a strong desire to bolster fellow creators, Tsang has pursued multiple avenues from serving as the Finance and Operations Lead at Trash Rats Theatre Collective, securing positions in renowned NYC Institutions such as Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, to being the Founder of The Rose Court Arts Collective which strives to promote and produce multi-disciplinary works through a virtual space. According to the State University of New York at Fredonia, Tsang graduated with a BM in Music Composition and a BA in Music-Entrepreneurship with a minor in Accounting which is a fancy way of saying they went to college to goof off. Julienne has studied under Dr. Rob Deemer, Dr. Andrew Martin Smith, Dr. Paul Coleman, and Jamie Leigh Sampson. |
Artist StatementConstantly and consistently looking for ways to break from my semi-charmed life, the oversized meatball in my cranium works 24/7 to produce fantastical narratives that will mature through some sort of artistic medium. By exploring ever-warping musical momentums, polyphonic leitmotif chaos, and the occasional idea-so-stupid-it might-work, I create perfectly pathetic plot lines fueled by the drive to pique either myself or god. I’m confined to this earth to bring a mildly amused smirk on your face via a metaphorical fruit salad containing musical theater, comics, contemporary chamber music, and/or ominous yahoo emails. So you can stay in the real world or you can join me in my futile efforts to–
