Program Note
Written in the Autumn of 2020, Tune for a Cherished Wife was a response to a call for score, and was selected as a finalist in the First Presents - Call for Scores event.
A sweet lad reached out to the composers of the World Wide Web, calling for everyone to gather their talents to create a set of playable piano tunes for his arthritic wife. Composers were expected to follow range criteria as well as make a certain 4-measure phrase apparent in the piece. For this tune, I decided to make that phrase the prime melody and expand upon it. The sweet and simple melody folds a beautiful love story into it, highlighting the bliss we feel when we are in love.
